How to Record a High-Quality Video Testimonial
Whether you're filming on a phone or a camera, here’s how to make it look and sound polished, relaxed, and authentic.
1. Find Good Lighting
-
Natural light is best — face a window for soft, flattering light.
-
Avoid strong backlighting (like windows behind you).
-
Use lamps or soft ring lights if filming indoors and natural light isn’t available.
2. Choose a Quiet Setting
-
Record in a quiet room to avoid background noise (traffic, wind, pets, etc.).
-
Turn off fans or anything humming in the background.
-
If outside, find a sheltered area and speak up clearly.
3. Frame It Well
-
Position the camera at eye level (avoid low or high angles).
-
Keep your head and shoulders in the frame — a medium-close shot works best.
-
Leave a little space above your head and centre yourself or use the rule of thirds for a natural look.
4. Use a Tripod or Stable Surface
-
Keep the camera still — prop it up or use a tripod.
-
Avoid holding the phone unless it’s perfectly still
5. Keep It Short & Sweet
-
Aim for 30–90 seconds.
-
It’s okay to do a few takes and pick the best one.
6. Sound Quality Matters
-
If possible, use earphones with a mic or an external microphone.
-
Speak clearly and at a steady pace.
7. Dress Simply
-
Avoid busy patterns or logos — solid colours are best.
-
Choose something that feels like you but also intentional.
Bonus Tips:
-
Smile and pause briefly before and after speaking — it helps with editing.
-
Relax — your experience matters, and your words can really help others.
