But does Manifesting actually work?
Posted by Charlotte Nutland onDoes Manifesting Actually Work?
How does the word manifesting make you feel?
For alot of us it feels like forced positivity. The word “manifesting” has had a bit of a PR crisis. It’s often served with a heavy dose of woo, vision boards with matcha, and “good vibes only” energy. It can put lots of us off and make it feel like its subscribing to something quite unrealistic and unobtainable.
The way its promoted online also feels quite farcical, people selling online courses teaching you how you can manifest your dream life.
However, when we look at what Manifesting is there are some really incredible benefits.
What Manifesting Actually Means
At its core, manifesting is about getting clear on what you want and intentionally working towards it. That’s it.
It’s mindset and then action.
Psychologists would call it visualisation, goal setting, or self-fulfilling prophecy. It’s been studied in athletes, entrepreneurs and performers for years. When you focus your energy and attention on something consistently, you’re more likely to notice opportunities, build motivation, and take aligned action.
Does this feel like something you can work with?
So, Does It “Work”?
Yes – if you’re willing to pair your intention with action.
Here’s how it doesn’t work:
-
Writing “I want £10,000” in your notepad and waiting for it to appear.
-
Pretending everything is fine when it isn’t.
-
Blaming others for why you're not moving forward
Here’s how it can work:
-
Getting clear on what you actually want.
-
Training your brain to focus on possibility instead of fear.
-
Taking small, real-world steps in that direction.
-
Being consistent, even when it’s boring or hard.
Manifesting for Beginners
Here’s a very simple way to get started:
1. Get Clear
What do you want? Write it down in one sentence. Try:
“I want to move to the countryside and work 4 days a week doing something I really love.”
2. Feel It
How would you feel if that was already your life? Calm? Free? Proud? Start bringing that feeling into your day now — it helps train your brain to believe it’s possible.
3. Visualise It Weekly
Spend 5 minutes a week (set a timer) imagining that life in detail. Not to escape reality — but to fire up your motivation and creative thinking.
4. Take Micro-Actions
Manifesting without action is just daydreaming. What’s one small step you can take this week? Email someone, research something, try a new habit?
5. Don’t Force Positivity
You don’t need to be relentlessly cheerful. Doubt, fear, messiness — they’re all part of the process. You’re human.
Final Thoughts
Manifesting isn’t about pretending life is perfect or expecting the universe to sort it all out for you. It’s about tuning into what you want, believing it’s possible, and then doing the work to make it real.
More mindset shift.
