Why Our Organic Body & Hand Cleanser Doesn’t Foam. And Why That’s a Good Thing
Posted by Charlotte Nutland on
At Chapter Organics, we’re often asked why our Organic Body & Hand Cleanser doesn’t foam like conventional body washes. It’s a great question and the answer speaks to our values of ingredient integrity, skin-kindness and environmental care.
The short answer? It’s because of what we choose not to include.
A Cleaner Clean: No Harsh Sulphates
Many mainstream body washes foam thanks to synthetic detergents like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). These sulphates are designed to create that bubbly lather we’ve been conditioned to associate with "clean." But the truth is, lather doesn’t equal clean — and for many people, sulphates can cause dryness, irritation or upset sensitive skin.
Instead of SLS or SLES, we use a certified organic formula made with nourishing plant-based ingredients like:
-
Aloe Vera Leaf Juice – Soothing, cooling and naturally hydrating
-
Coconut Oil – Gently cleanses while locking in moisture
-
Sunflower Seed Oil – Softens and protects the skin’s barrier
-
Natural Glycerin – Draws moisture into the skin for lasting hydration
These ingredients cleanse the skin without stripping its natural oils, helping you maintain a healthy, happy skin barrier especially important if you're prone to dryness or sensitivity.
So, Why Doesn’t It Foam Much?
Because we’ve consciously avoided harsh foaming agents. Our Body and Hand Cleanser creates a soft, silky emulsion when worked between your hands or onto the skin. Think creamy glide rather than frothy bubbles. The experience is gentler, more grounding, a quiet luxury that respects your skin and senses.
