A Gentle 3-Step Guide to Enjoying the Bank Holiday

We love Bank Holidays. An extra day to extend the weekend especially in the Summer. The August Bank Holiday can feel like an extra treat, tagging onto a holiday, unwinding together after a busy summer or a spontaneous trip to the beach if the weather is nice.
But sometimes the pressure of “making the most of it” creeps in: should we be away somewhere? Should we have plans? Should we be doing something memorable?
You scroll Instagram and see picture perfect photos of family picnics, dinner parties, garden parties. Everyone’s lives seem so full, busy and pristine.
In a world of Pinterest boards and polished Instagram grids, maybe your life doesn’t always feel picture perfect. That’s because its real, messy and wild. Its what makes your life rich, full and wild and makes you memorable.
So this Bank Holiday, instead of trying to capture the perfect moment, maybe just live it. Let there be mess, let there be laughter, let there be memories.
Here’s our easy guide to balancing just enough togetherness, just enough rest and just enough nourishment for yourself.
1. Do One Social Thing
Bank holidays are a natural moment to connect with friends, family, neighbours, or even just one person you’ve been meaning to catch up with. Connection doesn’t have to be a big thing. It could just be
· A slow morning walk with a friend and a coffee in hand
- Evening drinks with a neighbour
- Picnic with your family, all bringing a dish
Human connection is one of the simplest ways to boost our mood. Even a short conversation with someone we love can leave us feeling brighter and more supported.
2. Do One Relaxing Thing
Balance your connection with calm. The long weekend is the perfect time to rest with absolutely no guilt.
· A long, hot bath with your favourite Bathing Oils or Bathing Salts
- Curling up with a book or a podcast you’ve been saving
- A slow start to the day with fresh sheets and coffee in bed
Rest is productive. It allows our bodies and minds to recalibrate, reminding us that slowing down is not wasted time, but vital.
3. Do One Nourishing Thing
Finally, choose something that feels replenishing. Think of it as filling your own cup before the week begins again. This could look like:
- Cooking a favourite meal from scratch and really savouring it
- Spending time in nature, a walk or bike ride
- Writing postcards, framing photos or organising a shelf
These small rituals nourish not just our bodies, but our hearts and minds too.
A Bank Holiday that’s simple, fulfilling and restful
